Jeffrey Phillips reported last week in his Innovate on Purpose blog that his firm, OVO, is building a trend management application. His goal is to help individuals and teams to capture and evaluate emerging trends, an issue that a lot of innovators still seem to struggle with:
“The primary users are probably product managers, directors of product development or strategy, and senior managers interested in understanding what trends will effect their industry. The application we’ve built is a simple, but powerful concept to help capture trends, data, ideas and other information and synthesize it to make sense of the information.”
Jeffrey and OVO are looking for firms that are interested in improving their ability to capture, manage and evaluate trends in their markets, to work with and evaluate a pilot version of this application. Please send an e-mail to him if you’re interested (his blog post contains a link to his e-mail address – hint, look for the linked word “me” in parentheses).
This sounds like it may be a very worthwhile undertaking. We’re all exposed to a tidal wave of news and information every day, and identifying the “weak signals” and early warning signs of emerging trends is often difficult for the average business person. Anything that can help innovators to synthesize and analyze information more effectively could be a very powerful tool!
