In conjunction with the recent release of MindManager 6, software developer Mindjet has also formed Mindjet Labs, a place on its website where it can showcase the latest tools and applications built to extend the popular mind mapping program’s capabilities. The first application to be highlighted here is a Research Accelerator. Here’s how the developer describes what this new tool does:
“The Research Accelerator allows users to do research within MindManager, easily searching various sources for information. When using the Research Accelerator users are not losing their context by opening a separate application to use for search and research and then using copy and paste to bring the results back into MindManager.”
This tool installs a “research” pane on the right side of the MindManager screen, in which you type your search term and select the source which you want to search from a drop-down list. Your search results are also summarized in this pane; double-clicking on any result will insert it as a new topic into your map. I like this approach, because it gives you the freedom to decide which search results are relevant to your needs – instead of the Research Accelerator just dumping all of the search results (most of which you’re not interested in) into your map.
If you’re a user of MindManager and you conduct research as part of your job, then you should definitely check out this new Research Accelerator!
