Innovation tool: Five by Five

Thanks to Joyce Wycoff from the Heads Up on Organizational Innovation Weblog for highlighting this fascinating technique for creative exploration, Five by Five, which she credits to Matthew Homann's the non-billable hour blog, which focuses on the legal profession.

Thanks to Joyce Wycoff from the Heads Up on Organizational Innovation Weblog for highlighting this fascinating technique for creative exploration — Five by Five – which she credits to Matthew Homann’s the [non]billable hour blog (which focuses on the legal profession).

Each week, Matthew asks five people, who are experts in their fields, to give him five ideas on a particular topic — hence the “five by five” moniker. Joyce sees some real possibilities in this technique for expanding your creative horizons (and I do, too!):

“What a great idea to generate ideas — this could be expanded to innovation by inviting customers, suppliers, experts in other fields and so on.”

In his blog, Matthew also describes what he calls an Innovation Weekend — a simple technique for renewing his creativity. Great stuff!
