Where do you turn when you have software or hardware problems with your PC? Increasingly, tech-savvy computer users are turning to Google Groups, the popular search engine’s continually updated archive of Internet newsgroups. I’ve used this technique numerous times, and it’s surprisingly effective. The trick is phrasing your search term in such a way that it isn’t too general, or you could get hundreds of search results, most of which may not be relevant to your problem. But in more cases than not, others have experienced the same problem, have found a valuable “fix” or workaround, and have posted it on a newsgroup.

“Googling” other, non-computer challenges can be valuable as well. For example, you can search Google Groups to gather information or ideas, or to find out what people in newsgroups are saying about your company, products or brand names. Why not give it a try today?
