Recently, Mitch Ditkoff from Idea Champions sent me a series of five creative thinking workbooks that his firm offers. Called “It’s AHAppening,” these self-paced guidebooks are designed to make creative thinking techniques more accessible to executives and teams, and to increase the quality and quantity of new ideas generated on the job. Each workbook is 16 pages long and, according to Mitch, takes about 30 minutes to complete.

Each guidebook leads off with a brief, well-written essay on creative thinking, which sets the stage for the creative thinking technique to follow. Next is a step-by-step “how it works” description of the technique, followed by an example of how it can be applied in a typical business situation. The rest of each guidebook is devoted to working through your problems and challenges, using the technique you’ve just learned.
