A growing innovation challenge: No time to think

According to Joyce Wycoff, writing in her Good Morning Thinkers weblog, one of the biggest barriers to being creative and innovative is lack of time to think. This seems to be exacerbated by the drive toward "lean" processes in many organizations today, to the detriment of their ability to innovate.

According to Joyce Wycoff, writing in her Good Morning Thinkers weblog, one of the biggest barriers to being creative and innovative is lack of time to think. This seems to be exacerbated by the drive toward “lean” processes in many organizations today, to the detriment of their ability to innovate:

“This sounds good on paper and in cost-cutting meetings … the only problem is that machines don’t create innovation.  Innovation comes from people and only from people who have the time to think, time to tinker, time to wander through new territory, time to explore their curiosities and passions.”

So what are you doing to create thinking time for yourself and for those who work for you? Please post your thoughts and comments in Joyce’s weblog.
