Ted Goranson has authored a series of articles about the benefits, features and advantages of outling software in the APTM – About This Particular Macintosh e-zine. These articles are very informative and comprehensive, and feature dozens of links to outlining sofware and resources. Here’s a list of the articles that Ted has written so far on this topic:
Outliner history (September 2003): An overview of outlining and the history of outlining software on the Mac.
Outliner features – part 1 (October 2003): A great overview of typical outlining software features and applications, plus a comprehensive set of links to outliners for the Mac (OS X and earlier versions) and other operating systems.
Outliner features – part 2 (November 2003): In this article, Ted delves into more advanced features and capabilities of outlining software, and adds a few more outliners to last month’s list.
This is one of the best — and most recent — overviews of outlining software I’ve seen on the Web. Ted’s goal is “to list all the major features found in all outliners so that you can write your own definition of outliner needs,” so you can select the best tool for your needs. If you have any interest in outlining software, I strongly urge you to check out this excellent set of articles!
