The Phoenix Checklist: Innovation by the CIA

When creativity author Michael Michalko facilitated think tanks with the CIA, he was exposed to their Phoenix Checklist, which encouraged agents to look at problems from many different angles. This list of problem-solving questions can be quite useful in business settings as well.

The Phoenix Checklist is especially useful for doing a “deep dive” on whether a problem is a problem or a merely a symptom of a bigger problem. It is divided into two sections, focused on problem definition and how to generate solutions to it.
